Funny Jazz Talk
Fri, Aug 11, 2023 from 8:30pm - 10pm
Funny Jazz Talk is a comedy show that features stand-up, improv, and variety acts performing with a live jazz band on one stage. Two years ago creator and co-host, Ross Passeck, started playing his saxophone during his stand-up sets, embelishing one liners with jazzy sax riffs. That concept has since grown into one of Portland's most unique and iconic comedy shows, with comedians performing alongside a rotating band of jazz musicians from piano players, to guitarists, even the odd train whistle, and of course a drummer trained and ready for a classic rimshot after a punchline. This year Portland comedian and performer, Mama Fi, joined Funny Jazz Talk as co-host and producer, adding her pitch perfect voice and musical hilarity to make this one of the most dynamic comedy shows in the city.
Over the years, Funny Jazz Talk has brought together dozens of musicians, hundreds of comedians, including multiple winners of Portland's Funniest Person, Willamette Week's Funniest Five, the Mercury's Undisputable Geniuses of Comedy, and nationally touring headliners like Sean Jordan and Kyle Kinane. The show has also played host to local drag queens, improv comedians, and sketch performances.
Funny Jazz Talk continues to bring together the musical and comedy communities in order to create a show that distinguishes itself as something fresh, jazzy, and hilarious. Funny Jazz Talk stands alone as the only comedy show in town that will have you doubled over laughing, slapping your knees, and tapping your feet!
