See what happens when the written word meets improvised comedy!
For their 4th year in a row, Kickstand Comedy teams up with the Portland Book Festival and local authors to take their stories from page to stage! Watch the city's top improvisers as they take inspiration from written works and the author's insights to create a fun and unique night of comedy, literally!
Featuring readings from local authors Curtis C. Chen and Amelia Díaz Ettinger and improv from the Kickstand CVLT!
Once a Silicon Valley software engineer, Curtis C. Chen (陳致宇) now writes stories and runs puzzle games near Portland, Oregon. He’s the author of the KANGAROO series of funny science fiction spy thrillers and has written for the Realm original podcasts Echo Park, Ninth Step Murders, and Machina. Curtis’ short fiction has appeared in Playboy Magazine, Aliens vs. Predators: Ultimate Prey, The Sunday Morning Transport, and elsewhere. His homebrew cat feeding robot was displayed in the “Worlds Beyond Here” exhibit at Seattle’s Wing Luke Museum.
Amelia Díaz Ettinger is a Latinx BIPOC poet and writer. Her books include Learning to Love a Western Sky, Speaking at a Time /Hablando a la Vez, and These Hollow Bones, as well as the chapbooks Fossils in a Red Flag and Self Dissection. Amelia’s poetry and short stories have been published in anthologies, literary magazines, and periodicals. She has an MS in Biology and an MFA in creative writing. Her literary work is a marriage between science and her experience as an immigrant. She currently resides in Eastern Oregon.
