I CAN STEAL YOUR MOTHER

“I Can Steal Your Mother” is a fully-illustrated comedy show of storytelling and standup. The conceit of the show is that I am attempting to sell my entire life in the course of an hour, and must therefore explain as best I can what my whole life has been, and will be going forward. It is, however, not a simple recounting of the events of my life–but rather a dreamy, circuitous exploration of despair, kindred, French toast, and goddesses.

The show is a love letter to my father, a philosophical tour of Los Angeles (my hometown), a safety pamphlet about grief, and a glossary of some of my most mortifying moments.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Max Wittert is a comedian and illustrator from Los Angeles. A double threat, if you are threatened by the liberal arts.

His animation credits include Nickelodeon, Comedy Central, The Gag, and Ziwe (Showtime). Some of his performance credits include High Maintenance (HBO), Comedy Central, and the forthcoming Fantasmas (HBO). As a comedian, he has been featured in Clusterfest 2019, Blue Heaven Festival in 2020, and Pitchfest in 2022, and as an illustrator he has been published in The New Yorker, Art in America, Interview, and others. Max combines his standup with projections of his drawings to create an enveloping multi-media performance style. His BFA has never once helped him.

Max’s one-man illustrated comedy hour “Portrait of the Artist Seated with Grapes” went on tour across the U.S. in early 2020. His new show, “I Can Steal Your Mother” premiered in December 2022 at Pitchfest, and sold out on tour in San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York, and more. He writes, draws, and animates from his home in Brooklyn, which he shares with a devoted Roku Soundbar.
